MiWATERS LAUNCHED

The Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ) Water Resources Division has launched MiWaters, a web-based permitting and compliance database focused on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), storm water, groundwater discharge, aquatic nuisance control, Part 41 construction, and land and water interface permits. The database replaces over 25 outdated databases and includes 5 permitting programs. The program is meant to benefit regulated stakeholders by allowing them to manage their own accounts, submit applications and reports electronically, receive reminders regarding upcoming deadlines, and review past submissions and violations. Permit holders will receive letters in the mail with instructions to register.

CITY OF ALPENA SELECTS ASTI

Alpena, MI, January 5, 2016:  The City of Alpena selected ASTI Environmental to provide a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and a Pre-Demolition Asbestos / Hazardous Materials Survey of the 23,000 square foot, two-story Alpena Power Company building in downtown Alpena (208 N. First Street).  ASTIs Site Redevelopment Services team conducted the building inspection, oversaw QA/QC of lab results and prepared the report.  ASTI has completed similar scopes of work for Blight Elimination projects throughout the State of Michigan, including the Lenawee County Land Bank, the Muskegon County Land Bank/City of Muskegon Heights and the City of Inkster.

REDEVELOPMENT INCENTIVES ALERT

COMMERCIAL REHABILITATION ACT EXTENDED
There is good news for incentives in Michigan! Act 210 of 2005, more commonly referred to as the Commercial Rehabilitation Act, was set to sunset on December 31st of this year. After multiple bills extending the sunset for the Act were not acted upon early in the year, Senate Bill 0556 of 2015, sponsored by Senators Ken Horn and Steven Bieda, was passed by the Senate, by the House, and was signed by Governor Snyder on December 15, 2015. This bill extends the sunset for the Commercial Rehabilitation Act until December 31, 2020.

HART DOWNTOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT OFFICIALLY LISTED ON NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES

ASTI Environmental is proud to announce that the Hart Downtown Historic District has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of November 24, 2015. ASTI was contracted by Michigan’s State Historic Preservation Office to complete the nomination for the Hart Downtown District in 2014. After more than a year of community meetings, collaboration with local and state officials, extensive historic research and documentation, the State Historic Preservation Review Board unanimously approved the nomination in September of 2015 and the nomination was  submitted to the National Park Service in October of 2015.
