The Higginbotham Art Residences

ASTI Environmental is part of URGE Development Group’s team to redevelop a historical, abandoned school building in an underserved area of Detroit into a 100-unit affordable housing development with dedicated community space that incorporates art and celebrates local artists. Plans include an outdoor sculpture garden and two children’s play areas. By blending affordable housing with vibrant cultural elements, the project creates a space where art and community intersect. This Higginbotham Art Residences project is funded through a complex mix of public and private sources, including low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, MSHDA funding, and City of Detroit ARPA funds. ASTI was engaged to conduct a comprehensive suite of environmental services tailored to MSHDA, EGLE, and HUD requirements.
