ASTI assisted the Paint Creek Trailways Commission with the necessary environmental clearances to plan for the replacement of a bridge along the Paint Creek Trailway.
ASTI performed a wetland delineation and threatened and endangered species surveys for federal- and state-listed species in the vicinity of the bridge. As part of the threatened and endangered species clearance, ASTI conducted a reconnaissance survey for protected mussel species within Paint Creek. ASTI determined that there was not suitable habitat for mussels in this section of the creek and received confirmation from the regulatory agencies that further mussel survey work was not necessary. ASTI also evaluated habitat for the eastern massasauga rattlesnake and several protected plant species. Finally, ASTI tagged potential bat habitat trees within the impact areas and inspected the existing bridge for bat usage.
