Located along the Trenton Channel of the Detroit River, the residential property had experienced the fluctuating water levels associated with lakefront living. ASTI was hired to resolve the long-standing issue of wet, soggy lawn along the water’s edge. The new homeowners wanted to define the boundary between the lawn and water more significantly. The goal was to provide a well-drained and functional lawn area and allow the water’s edge to be natural.

The end goal of this project was achieved by providing a Michigan-native boulder wall along the delineated wetland boundary to protect the shoreline and support long-term ecological stability. This design approach also minimized erosion and preserved existing natural features along the Detroit River corridor.

A United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permit and a Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) permit were obtained for the client. Our team coordinated closely with regulatory agencies throughout the permitting and design process to ensure compliance while advancing sustainable shoreline restoration goals.

This project was completed under PEA Group, and the ecological expertise demonstrated here—including shoreline protection and permitting, continues today through ASTI Environmental, PEA Group’s environmental division.
