  • Mussel Surveys

A native mussel survey was conducted in the Clinton River in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The survey was required prior to emergency bank stabilization needed for an exposed sanitary sewer manhole and lines. This stretch of river was classified as a “Group 3a,” where federally listed species were potentially found. Historically, populations of the federally endangered snuffbox, Epioblasma triquetra, and rayed bean, Villosa fabalis, occurred in the river. ASTI worked with USFWS to develop a modified reconnaissance survey over 182 m (597 ft) of the Area of Direct Impact (ADI), and required buffer zones. Worn shells were found and no relocation was needed.
