ASTI was contracted for the EPA Site-Specific Assessment Grant (#BF-00EO1519-0) for Riverside Park Parcel 3. The purpose of the project was to conduct historical data review and environmental site assessments to determine the nature and extent of historical impacts at the property, enabling the City to fulfill continuing due care obligations and reopen the park.
The assessment built on historical and ongoing investigation activities conducted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy – Remediation and Redevelopment Division (EGLE-RRD).
All objectives of the Work Plan and subsequent addendums were met. The grant allowed the City to complete the investigation, address data gaps, and develop a focused feasibility study to support a remedial action plan. EGLE-RRD and the City worked cooperatively toward a comprehensive site assessment that maximized the use of grant funds.
The grant was essential in identifying a strategy to reopen and redevelop Riverside Park #3 in a way that protects the health of park users and staff.
